Support

The word support means different things to different people.
The different meanings that come to mind are:
Financial support
Emotional support
Physical support for those recovering from surgery or otherwise physically disabled
Listening Ear -that friend who always listens
Encouragement - some call these your balcony cheer squad - those who are always cheering you on no matter what you may be working on

Anyway, support can come from anyone and anywhere.

I know people all over the US and the world from my days as a Girl Scout Leader and through PartyLite. Thanks to social media (mainly instagram), I am able to stay in connection with these friends.

I know who I have texted in the evening when I was so distraught I didn't know what to do, and I know who answered and who didn't. I do my best not to hold that against them.

Not everyone who listens to you is a true supporter of your best interests.
Not every cause you support actually uses the money the way you envision it to be used.

I say all this because we are taught to be good stewards of what we have (time, money, services, goods) and to use them for the best possible way.

I encourage you to take inventory of the causes you support and investigate to see where the money goes and if it doesn't go where you thought it did, know that it is OKAY to stop giving to them.

I learned years ago that ACS, Komen and Making Strides does not give to the patient near as much as I was led to believe. So, I quit supporting them financially.

I personally choose to give to a local women's shelter and the Down Syndrome Association of Middle TN because I know exactly where that money goes and have a personal connection to each organization.

Both the companies I represent (PartyLite and Origami Owl) have programs to give back to charitable organizations.  Before I post about the product or promotion on social media, I do my own research before I put my name beside it.

I urge you to support your friends and acquaintances in their journeys in this life. There is something special about getting a note in the mail from a long time friend and they say they are proud of how far you have come or what you have accomplished.

I am sure you have someone in your circle of influence that could use a phone call or text letting them know you care about them. Why wait? send it today!
