Today was a peaceful rainy Sunday here in Tennessee.
I went grocery shopping with no rain clouds in sight, but in the 45 minutes it took to navigate the store, pick up my items and check out, there was a steady falling rain outside the doors of the store. I had no umbrella (have not carried one in years and don't keep one in my car either), so I just walked to my car and let the rain fall on me and around me. Honestly, it felt good. It was a cooling rain and felt good in my constant over-heated state.
I loaded the groceries in my car, put away my cart in the cart corral and then got in my car to wipe off my glasses on my t-shirt. Yes, I was drenched but it was a cleansing rain and it made me think of how many things the rain does for us.
Rain can annoy us, it can distract us while driving, it can cause flooding in low-lying areas, it waters our lawns, plants, gardens and sometimes rain on a metal roof can lull us to sleep. I am thankful I no longer have that one hour plus commute on rainy days, but it sure makes for good napping/sleeping weather to just have the rain fall and water the earth.
On cooler nights, you might find me sitting in the carport watching the rain fall and taking it all in to clear my head.
Rain makes things messy just like snow and storms, it is simply a fact of life that complaining cannot fix. In certain seasons when you live in Central America, you can set your watch by the daily rainfall that will last about 20 minutes and then the rest of the day will be super steamy/humid. We always tried to get errands run before the rain hit or wait until nightfall when we knew it would be cooler. I lived in Panama Canal Zone for a couple of years when my first husband was stationed there via the US Army.
I have now been employed at the CPA firm for just over 5 months. It is definitely not what I expected and the days are crazy busy and sometimes very intense depending on the work load and the mood/attitude of the clients we serve.
I crochet nearly every night after I get home as a means to de-stress and work on something that will help others. The toddler size throws and scarves I am making currently will go to the women's shelter once they are complete. In order to make this huge goal happen I created a go fund me page to raise money for this on going project. If you would like to donate, please visit https://www.gofundme.com/parish-mercy-ministries
I hope you choose to go for the things you want and not wallow in what you don't have.
