I am a list maker. I used to be one of those that carried a franklin covey planner around with me to schedule every piece of my life. It had schedules for work, home, bills, school, girl scouts and cub scouts all in one place.
As life changed I went to a calendar and started keeping appointments in my phone (copied that idea from my daughter!) and I no longer carry a planner with me everywhere.
I have a monthly planner here in my corner of the living room with notes and birthdays and special events listed. I update it every Sunday night for the coming week. Yes, I still forget things and it might take me a day or two to get back to the pharmacy to pick up my meds, but for the most part, I am organized and the bills are paid.
Usually in the evenings, my husband and I will talk about what needs to get done the following day. He has an erratic work schedule and some days I get to run all the errands and that is not a problem.
This past weekend, I had 2 things I wanted to do on Saturday. I was going to visit Mom and Dad, get some crochet time in, have lunch and then stop by Lowe's on the way home. In the midst of all this covid-19 and the shut downs, I had not set foot in Lowe's since January. I was a bit wary of going into a large warehouse type store after my anxiety attacks and coughing spells that happened in Wal-Mart a couple of weeks ago.
Well, I looked up the part I needed online and drove to Lowe's and put on my mask, took my time walking through the store and found what I needed. An employee actually offered to help me find something if I needed assistance, that was so nice! Then I made my way back to the front of the store and found the other thing that was on the back of my mind list and happily made my way to self-check out and was out the door much quicker than expected. I took my mask off my face as I exited the store and made my way to the car.
I got home, unloaded the car, put the food in the fridge and went to work.
I had bought large white numbers/letters for the mailbox and I placed 206 on both sides of our mail box and on the door the postal carrier has to pull down so there is NO mistake where they are delivering mail to.
I also had bought a part for the toilet so that we could properly flush the toilet again. Last summer, I watched my son Brian install one of these for us and I was determined to do this on my own without any help other than a wrench and the directions. I said a prayer before I started the task because I really wanted to do this correctly and not mess anything up.
Hooray! I fixed the toilet !! I was so proud of myself and I couldn't help but think of my son and my Girl Scout Leader Mrs. Jane Glassford after I finished that task.
Sunday I attended church in spite of my aches and pains and I was SO blessed by the lesson. I have shared it on my facebook page if you want to see it.
Monday I was supposed to thaw out chicken and prep some other things here at the house, but I was not feeling well at all and ended up sleeping most of the day away. I woke up feeling guilty and that somehow I had let someone down by not getting anything done.
I will continue to be a list maker, but I will also give myself some grace and not be so hard on myself.
Continue to work toward your goal(s) and make those lists. Give yourself a break when your body indicates you need it. We as women give to others much more than we give to ourselves. Take a walk, go to the park, take that nap... above all else listen to your body and don't wear yourself out. We need you here!
